Risk Logic Inc., an unbundled Property Loss Prevention Engineering company, is looking for a Property Loss Prevention Engineer. This is a contract position.

Required education, work experience, and skills: 

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited college / university. 
  • PE license a plus. 
  • A minimum of five years' prior employment as a Field Engineer at FM Global.

Responsibilities of this job: 

  • Paid on a per-job basis. 
  • Travel required for on-site inspections. 
  • Determine adequacy of automatic fire protection systems and water supplies for wide range of manufacturing and storage occupancies. 
  • Analysis of natural hazard exposures and existing protection against. 
  • Develop recommendations for improvement as needed using applicable standards. 
  • Expertise in calculating NLEs, PMLs, and MFLs. 
  • Understanding of FM Global standards and NFPA codes. 
  • Strong technical writing skills. 
  • Self-motivated person who can work efficiently from a home office. 
  • Understanding of Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel.
  • Communicate daily via email and telephone. 
  • Adequate interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with various clients.

The successful applicant will: 

  • Design fire suppression systems from concept to shop drawing quality meeting Canadian Building and Fire code requirements;  
  • Plan and coordinate design activities for individual project work; 
  • Attend meetings at construction sites to coordinate designs and installation;
  • Utilize industry standard design software to efficiently design systems;
  • Coordinate system design with Architectural, Mechanical, electrical and site services;
  • Prepare system calculations, including hydraulic calculations to NFPA-13 requirements;
  • Conduct hydrant flow tests.

Requirements: 

  • Education in Architectural or Mechanical Technology or a related discipline with two (2) to five (5) years or more experience in fire suppression system design;
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills;
  • Ability to pass a general security background check;
  • NICET certification in fire suppression system design is an asset.
